PETER TAKACS

Beethoven's complete piano sonatas played by Peter Takacs. 11 SACDs.
From Peter Takacs:
The word “complete” is accurate: in addition to the canonic 32 Sonatas, this set includes the three “Elector” Sonatas, WoO 47, composed in Bonn in 1782, two easy Sonatas, WoO 50 and 51, the Andante, WoO 57 (Andante favori), originally intended as the second movement of the “Waldstein” Sonata, and the Sonata in D major for piano four- hands, Op. 6 (with my good friend Janice Weber playing secondo). In other words, this is the only set containing every keyboard sonata Beethoven ever wrote. This is a labor of love that started in 1998-2000, when I performed the cycle of 32 Sonatas in eight recitals over two years in Finney Chapel at Oberlin College. The recording sessions started in December 2001 and were completed in June 2007. There is an audiophile component to this project: the recording is in DSD (direct stream digital), and is released in Hybrid SACD multi-channel format, playable on all SACD and CD players.
