Katona Twins: Manuel De Falla

Manuel de Falla is widely regarded as the most distinguished Spanish composer of the early twentieth century. Although he only composed one piece for guitar, his music is strongly influenced by Spanish folk music, in which the guitar plays a central role. For this recording, the Katona Twins have selected and transcribed works in which the influence of the guitar was dominant. The Katonas felt that adding percussion, played here by David Garcia Mir, would enhance the rhythmic element that is central to the music of Spain. Also featured are the singing talents of Juanita Lascarro, who made a spectacular British operatic debut as the heroine of Strauss' Daphne.
