The 2010 Salzburg Festival opened with a performance of Dionysos and featured outstanding soloists Mojca Erdmann, Elin Rombo, Virpi Raisänen, Julia Faylenbogen, Johannes Martin Kränzle, Matthias Klink and Uli Kirsch. Composer Wolfgang Rihm is one of the world’s most acknowledged contemporary composers. In 2010 he won the Leone d’oro at the Venedig Film Festival. He had carried about with him this work of music drama for more than 15 years before committing it to paper in a matter of weeks, rehearsals began only one week after the composition was completed. Impressive stage design by Jonathan Meese: minimalistic steep forms alternate with playful details. DVD set includes the 53 mins documentary I am thy Labyrinth by Bettina Ehrhardt.
