This reissue in harmonia mundi's hmGold series features the members of Trio Wanderer as soloists in one of Beethoven's most unusual works. Some historians and critics have opined that the enigmatic Triple Concerto may have been intended as a vast rhapsody intended to show off the virtuosity of three hand-picked soloists. However, when a piano trio of the caliber of Trio Wanderer turns its attention to the work, it takes on a quite different aspect: it becomes a genuine "Concerto for trio and orchestra." First released in 2001, the disc also includes the incidental music from Egmont with soprano Anja Harteros accompanied by James Conlon and the Gurzenich Orchestra.
